Old Posts: Brian’s Blog

Since this website has been rebuilt, and there wasn’t an easy way to incorporate Pastor Brian’s old blog, I decided to post it here for your perusal. In the future each of the staff and other members will be able to post to the site/blog to varying degrees. As for now, pasted below is the former content of Brian’s Blog.

Welcome back! It’s been some busy and exciting months during my absence (from this blog). Our youth are now meeting on Saturday evennings at 6pm, and we are meeting on Sunday mornings for worship at 10:30am in our home.

We had our first youth retreat on September 12-13th with a theme of “Living as if Jesus were with us all of the time”. (A nod back to the old WWJD days.) We had 13 youth attend. Thank you Father!

We’ve slowly been adding equipment, software licenses, and taking care of the thousand and one other details that accompany a church plant. We are now turning our efforts to one of the biggest steps – a new worship space. We’ve been watching our targeted area of Hwy 370, North Highway 94, and New Town for months. We have two different sites that we are very interested in and continue to pray for directions. Because everyone wants a minimum of a 3 year lease, we want to make sure to choose a location that will allow us to grow as God provides.

Visited a possible launch site today at 211 Hughes Lane. The building contained a foyer, 3 offices/meeting rooms/cry room, bathroom, and a large warehouse space (24′ x 80′?). The site has lots of parking, one entire wall visible to Hwy 94 (hanging banners!), but could be limited in size for a 3-year lease.

On the recommendation of someone who’s opinion I admire very much – my wife – I’m beginning a blog on the journey of a church plant; The Oasis.

Why “The Oasis”?

It’s the perfect analogy to what the church was designed to be – a fertile area in an arid region; a place of refuge or relief; a place with springs of living water; a place to go for refreshing to help prepare you to go out into the world; a place where you can tell other travellers that they can go for life – for times of refreshing.

How/why is The Oasis different?

It may not be different than your church. Our focus is not to be different from other churches – our goal is to be true to the model set forth by Jesus Christ during His ministry on earth and described in the New Testament; Especially the end of Acts chapter 2.

“All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all… They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.” (New Living Translation)
